To learn more about lung disease and risk of lung disease in early RA.
In this research study we want to learn more about rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Some people with rheumatoid arthritis develop a related condition called RA-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD). We are doing this study to understand why some people with RA develop RA-ILD and others do not. If you decide to join this research study, the following things will happen: a joint exam, vital signs, listening to your heart and lungs, questionnaires, pulmonary function testing, and a six-minute walk test. Hand x-rays and a CT scan of the chest will take place at the beginning and end of the study and you will have blood draws during study visits.
1. 18 years of age or older; 2. New-onset RA defined as within 5 years of first articular symptoms; 3. Meeting 2010 ACR/EULAR criteria for RA[1] 4. Patient willing and able to provide informed consent; 5. Patient willing and able to allow blood draw for research purposes; 6. Patient willing and able to undergo non-contrast chest HR-CT scan, or already had this performed within 6 months of anticipated enrollment and willing to allow research use of the images.
