Digital Mindfulness Programs for People Living After Breast Cancer

This study looks at whether a digital mindfulness program can help people diagnosed with breast cancer by age 50 who are feeling depressed. We will compare different digital programs to see which one helps the most.

Why this Research Matters

Mindfulness meditation programs given in person can help young people with breast cancer. But in-person meetings can be hard to attend because of travel and taking time away from work or family. Digital programs may make it easier for young people living after breast cancer who feel depressed to join these programs.

What to Expect

If you choose to join this study, you will meet with research staff to take a short questionnaire to see if you qualify. If you qualify, the study sponsor will email you with instructions to complete an online questionnaire. You may need to wait many weeks for this email while enough people enroll in the study. You will be placed into one of three possible digital mindfulness programs by chance, like flipping a coin. One program involves a weekly 2-hour group session on Zoom led by a trainer. The second program uses a mobile app with lessons and guided mindfulness exercises that you do on your own. The last program involves listening to guided audio mindfulness meditations. Trained research staff from the University of California, Los Angeles will show you how to use your assigned digital program. If you do not have access to a tablet or the internet, these will be provided for you. During the 6-week program, you will do about 3 hours of activities each week. You will fill out online questionnaires after the program ends and again at 3 months and 6 months. Each questionnaire will take about 20 to 30 minutes.

Study Duration

The study lasts about 9 months
