Inflammation in Pregnancy

This study looks at whether mothers with viral infections during pregnancy experience inflammation that might affect the baby.


Why this Research Matters

We will collect blood from women twice during pregnancy, collect samples at delivery, and collect blood from babies when they are born.


Who can Participate

All Ages

We will enroll 3 groups of pregnant women who plan to deliver their baby at UC Health or Denver Health: 1. Women who get sick with COVID-19 while pregnant 2. Pregnant women who are living with HIV 3. Pregnant women who are healthy without any known viral infections Mother's age is at least 18 years Mother is in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy at enrollment Infant delivery happens on time (not premature) Infant weighs at least 5.5 pounds at birth Mother's body mass index prior to pregnancy is less than 30 Mother is not receiving steroids or other medications that affect the immune system during pregnancy Mother does not have STIs, tuberculosis, hepatitis, or other infections during pregnancy Mother does not have cancer or diabetes Mother does not have complications of pregnancy or delivery
