The purpose of this research is to evaluate the study drug, pemvidutide, as a possible treatment for alcohol use disorder (AUD). This research will help to answer the question of whether pemvidutide could be helpful as a treatment for people who are trying to reduce or quit their drinking of alcohol. This research will also help to answer the question of whether pemvidutide could be helpful in reducing body weight, waist size, and body fat.
If you decide to take part in this research study, you will: - Complete about 14 study visits to the clinic over approximately 32 weeks (8 months) - Take an injectable study drug or placebo weekly for 6 months During the research study, you will have a physical exam, ECG and lab tests, have your weight measured, give urine and blood samples, do alcohol breathalyzer tests, answer questions and complete questionnaires, and take an injectable study medication. - Adults aged 18 to 75 - Drink regularly and meet criteria for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) - Interested in reducing or stopping your alcohol use - Overweight (body mass index of 25 or higher) Not everyone will qualify to be in the study.
