Find a Research Study

Psilocybin is a chemical found in certain psychedelic mushrooms that people use for recreational purposes. Researchers still do not fully know how it affects people or why it may affect them in different ways. Before joining the study, you will have a 1 hour visit at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. During this visit, you will show your ID to confirm your age, answer questions about your health, and give a pee sample for a drug test, and if needed, a pregnancy test. You will also be given supplies like a test tube, spit collection kits, and instruction sheets. The study team will not give you psilocybin mushrooms, so you will need to get them on your own. On the day you plan to use psilocybin, you will fill out surveys sent to your phone, measure your dose, put a small sample of your mushrooms in a collection tube, and provide a spit sample right before taking them. You will then take the psilocybin as you normally would and answer survey questions sent to your phone throughout the day. Two hours after taking your mushrooms, you will give one more spit sample in a collection tube. You will bring both spit samples back to the Anschutz Medical Campus 24 to 48 hours later. You will also complete additional surveys 24 hours after you have taken the mushrooms. Afterwards, you will be sent more surveys to fill out once a week for the next four weeks. These surveys will take about 20 minutes to do. Your participation in the study will last about 5 weeks and includes 1 in person visit and 4 remote visits. There is no cost to join the study and you can earn up to $200 if you complete all study visits.

Who can Participate

You may be able to join this study if you are between 21 and 75 years old, live in the Denver metro area, have used psilocybin at least twice in the past year, plan to use it in the next 60 days, and have access to the internet.
