Healthy Lungs, Healthy Smiles: Comparing Oral Health in Children Who Do and Do Not Require Long Term Airway Support

In this study, we aim to learn how oral health may differ in children who require long-term breathing support compared to those who do not.

Why this Research Matters

Currently, when children are admitted to the hospital, they don’t get routine dental care. We hope the information gathered in this study can help improve the oral hygiene care for children with breathing needs in the hospital.

What to Expect

There are two groups in this study. Group 1 is for children coming to the Dental Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado for a routine dental exam. During their dental exam we will collect a saliva sample by gently rubbing a soft cotton swab inside your child’s mouth. Group 2 is for children in the hospital who need long-term breathing support. We will come to your child’s beside to complete a dental exam. Then, we will collect a saliva sample by gently rubbing a soft cotton swab inside your child’s mouth.

Study Duration

Your child’s participation in this study will only last for this single dental visit.
