Research Study on Social and Thinking Processes in the Brain

Are you a charming, aggressive, carefree person who makes up their own rules and is good at handling people while looking out for number one? If so, you could be selected to participant in a brain research study.


Why this Research Matters

Researchers are interested in learning more about the effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on brain activity and mental health. TMS is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic pulses delivered through a coil placed on the scalp to temporarily influence brain activity. TMS is investigational for improving cognition and has not been approved by the FDA for this purpose. This study will examine whether TMS may impact performance on thinking tasks. Researchers are looking for adults with certain personality traits, including confidence in social situations, independence, and comfort making their own decisions. What researchers learn from this study may improve understanding of how TMS affects brain activity and thinking skills.


What to Expect

If you choose to participate, you will attend two in-person study visits. During these visits, you will complete a physical exam, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, electroencephalogram (EEG) scans, provide urine and blood samples, answer questionnaires and surveys, and participate in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) sessions.


Study Duration

Up to 9 hours across two in-person study visits.


Who can Participate

18-60

This study may be a good fit for you if you: 

  • Are 18 to 60 years old 
  • Do not have a metal implant or implanted medical device  
  • Are not currently pregnant 
Not everyone will qualify to participate. The study team will review additional eligibility requirements to determine whether this study is a good fit for you.
