The Impact Media and Alcohol Have on Couples’ Relationship Health
We are looking for couples, 21 or older, to join a study about how alcohol and media affect relationships.
Why this Research Matters
This study wants to see how alcohol and media affect relationships among people who are dating or married. You will participate in the study with your current partner.
First, you will fill out some surveys to see if you qualify for the study. This will take about 90 minutes. If you qualify, you will be put into one of two groups: one group drinks alcohol with orange juice, the other group drinks only orange juice. You can’t choose your group. The alcoholic drinks are like having 3-4 mixed drinks at a bar. Then, you will do a media task with your partner for about 25 minutes. If you were in the alcohol group, you’ll still be drunk when the experiment ends. So, you’ll need to wait until your blood alcohol level is safe before leaving, which usually takes a few hours.
You and your partner will have one study visit at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. This visit will take about 3 to 10 hours. You will have two follow-up phone calls: one the next day and one a week later.
You can join this study if:
1. You are 21 or older
2. You or your partner is a man
3. You join as a couple
4. You drink alcohol
