New Device to Manage Insulin Delivery for Kids and Adults with Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes

In this study we want to learn how a device that automates insulin delivery (called the iLet Bionic Pancreas) helps people with Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes manage their insulin levels. We want to learn how well this device works compared to a normal insulin delivery method.

Why this Research Matters

There are two parts to this study. In the first part, you or your child will be randomly assigned to a group, like flipping a coin. Group 1 will use the iLet Bionic Pancreas. Group 2 will continue to use their normal insulin delivery method. Then, in the second part of the study, Group 1 and Group 2 will both use the iLet Bionic Pancreas. If you or your child joins this study you will come to about 16 study visits at the Barbara Davis Center on the CU Anschutz campus over about 7 months. During the study visits we will do physical exams and ask you or your child questions about your health. We will also use a needle in you or your child's arm to take blood samples. We will ask you or your child to give urine samples. You or your child will be paid for each study visit that you complete.

Who can Participate

All Ages

You or your child may be able to join this study if you are at least 14 years old and have been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes. You or your child may also be able to join this study if you have been using insulin for at least three months. You or your child may also be able to join this study if you have been on the same insulin routine for at least one month before joining the study. You or your child must be able to read written instructions in English. Before joining, a study doctor will do other tests to make sure you or your child meet all the requirements and it is safe for you to join.
