Effect of Clinical Setting on Breathing Test Results for Children with Early Onset Scoliosis

This study wants to learn if breathing tests (called spirometry) performed in an outpatient clinic give results that are as reliable and accurate as spirometry that is done in a specialized lung function lab.

Why this Research Matters

Patients with early onset scoliosis often must go to a special lung function lab to do breathing tests called spirometry. This study wants to find out if the results of spirometry when the test is done in the special lab vs. a normal outpatient clinic are the same. If your child joins this study, they will come to one study visit. At this visit we will ask about their medical history. We will also measure their height and arm span, and we will do a few spirometry tests. After the visit, we may call you with extra questions about your child's health. There is a chance that your child may be asked to come back for one more breathing test, but they do not have to do this.

Who can Participate

Child and Teen

Your child can join this study if they are at least 5 years old and if they have had at least one spirometry breathing test performed in the past. Also, your child must be being treated for early onset scoliosis at Children's Hospital Colorado.
