This study wants to know how helpful a virtual physical therapy program is for older Veterans having physical difficulties in their day-to-day life.
Older Veterans who have many chronic health issues may face challenges with physical function, quality of life, and increasing care needs. Many older Veterans also experience social isolation or loneliness and may not get enough physical activity. The Veterans Administration (VA) has developed programs to help address these health concerns, but many need participants to attend visits in person. This study wants to learn if using technology is more effective in improving strength, movement, and engagement.
If you choose to join this study, you will complete a physical therapy assessment and answer questions about your health and medical history. If you can continue, you will be randomly assigned to one of two groups by chance. One group will take part in individual and group physical therapy sessions two to three times each week with a physical therapist. Participants in this group will use a tablet and a Fitbit during sessions. The other group will take part in health education sessions that cover topics such as nutrition, stress management, and sleep habits. Participants in this group will also complete questionnaires and telephone check-ins throughout the study. They will also meet with a physical therapist for a consultation and may be referred to a VA program that matches their needs. Participants in both groups will receive a Fitbit and may keep it after completing the study.
Participation in this study may last up to 24 weeks.
Veterans may be eligible to participate if they are
