Managing Type 2 Diabetes in Teens with Depression

Researchers are trying to find new ways to help improve the mood of teenagers who have Type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Why this Research Matters

We want to see whether a therapy program that helps lower depression and stress, or a Type 2 diabetes (T2D) health education program, can help teens better manage their T2D. There are three parts to this study. If you qualify for the study, the first step is a baseline visit where you will complete some assessments and surveys at home. Next, you will be randomly placed into either the therapy group or the T2D health education group, kind of like flipping a coin. In both groups, you will join a virtual group session for one hour each week for six weeks in a row. In the final step, you will have two follow-up visits which will include some assessments and surveys to complete at home. One visit happens right after your program ends, and the other happens about three months later. In summary, for this study, you will be asked to fill out surveys, wear an activity/sleep watch, keep track of your daily activity, and give spit samples. You will be in the study for about 24 to 32 weeks. You do not have to pay anything to be in the study. You can earn up to $557 if you finish all the visits.

Who can Participate

Child and Teen

You may be able to join the study if you are a teen between 12 and 17 years old, have been diagnosed with T2D, and sometimes feel stressed or depressed.
