Citizen-Science Technology for Healthy Living at Home

This study will test the Home Health Box in real homes by having people measure and track the air quality in their home, see how easy it is to use based on their feedback, and make improvements before bringing the device to market.

Why this Research Matters

Most people spend 90% of their time indoors, but indoor air pollution is not often studied, even though it affects health. The Home Health Box (HHB) is a new device that makes testing air quality easy and affordable. With the HHB, anyone can check the air in their home, get automatic data, and see results quickly. If you join this study, you will be put into one of two groups by chance. You cannot choose your group. All homes will get the Home Health Box three times. Each time, you will use the HHB for one week, with a six-week break in between each use. After the first two times, homes in the first group will get a Home Health Report. This report will give you personal information about the air quality in your home and simple, low-cost ways to make it better. We want to know how air quality changes over time in both groups and if the Home Health Reports are useful. You will answer questions about your home, education, job, smoking and medical history. We will also ask to look at your medical records. The study may last up to 21 weeks. You will get up to $100 if you complete the study.
