How Eating Early vs.Later in the Day Affects Weight Loss and Metabolism in Adults with Overweight or Obesity
This study wants to learn more about the best times of day to eat that lead to weight loss for adults with overweight or obesity.
Why this Research Matters
If you join this study, you will be randomly put into one of two groups. You don’t pick your group. The first group will eat only between 8 am and 4 pm. The second group will eat only between 12 pm and 8 pm. You will follow this schedule for 12 months.
You will have about 5 in-person visits at CU Anschutz Medical Campus. At these visits, you will fill out surveys and have your vitals, medications, height, and weight checked. You will have a DXA scan, which is an X-ray, that measures body fat and muscle. We will also take a small amount of blood from your arm with an IV. For 3 days after each visit, you will take pictures of everything you eat and send them to the study team. You will also wear devices to track your activity and blood sugar for 10 days after each visit.
The study will last about 15 months.
You may join this study if you are:
- 18 to 65 years old
- have a BMI between 27 and 45 kg/m2
- generally healthy without diabetes (if you have pre-diabetes that is okay)
- usually eat for more than 12 hours a day
- own a smartphone
- live or work within 45 minutes from the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center
You will get up to $470 if you complete all study visits.
