Semaglutide as a Treatment for Adolescents and Adults with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

In this study we want to learn if a medicine approved for diabetes and weight loss called Ozempic® and Wegovy® (semaglutide) can help improve the frequency of periods and the way the body uses sugar in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Why this Research Matters

If you/your child joins this study, you will come to 7 visits across 18 months at the Anschutz Medical Campus. At these visits we will use a needle in your arm to take blood samples. We will also ask you to give a urine sample. We will perform body scans and ultrasounds to see how your body and ovaries respond to the medication. We will ask you to fill out surveys about your health and daily habits. One two occasions, we will have you drink a sugary drink and then we will take multiple blood samples to see how your body responds to sugar. We will also ask you to do some tasks at home between visits. This includes using an app to track your period and giving yourself weekly injections of the study medicine. We will also ask you to wear two watches to track how you sleep and how many steps you take in a day. We will ask you to collect urine samples at home. If you complete all the study visits and take the study medication as told, you can be paid up to $700.
