Study Exploring Lung Health in Young Adults to Find Better Ways to Identify and Treat Lung Disease

We want to see how breathing in air pollution, cigarette or marijuana smoke, and job dangers affect lung health in young adults.

Why this Research Matters

This study wants to understand why some people get lung disease and others don’t. We are looking at why some young adults have healthier lungs than others to help find better ways to identify and treat lung diseases.

What to Expect

If you join, you will have one in-person visit. During this visit, you will do lung tests, get pictures of your chest (CT scans), and give a urine sample and nasal swab. We will also take a small amount of blood from your arm using a needle. You will also fill out surveys. After this visit, you will wear an activity monitor for one week and do 5 breathing tests (spirometry) at home for two weeks. During the rest of the study, you will answer questions about your health, life events, and exposure to air pollution, smoke, and job dangers. You will do this from home. You will do 1 breathing test every 3 to 6 months at home.

Study Duration

The study will last from 6 months to 4.5 years.
