Understanding Respiratory Infections to Help Prevent Future Pandemics (PREMISE)

This study wants to learn new ways to prevent and respond to pandemics by studying current infections, like colds. We will collect and store biological samples and health data from children to use in research to make drugs, tests, and vaccines for these types of infections.

Why this Research Matters

If your child joins this study, they will come to two study visits at Children's Hospital Colorado. One will be when they join the study, and the second will be a year later. At these study visits we will ask you/your child to fill out surveys about their health history. We will also take a small amount of blood from your child's arm with a needle. We will use a swab to brush along the gums of your child’s teeth to collect a saliva sample. We will also gently put a cotton swab into their nose to collect a mucus sample. If your child gets sick over the course of the year they are in the study, we will ask you to collect a swab from your child's nose and send it to the study team. We will also ask you to fill out surveys about your child's sickness and symptoms. You/your child will be paid up to $150 if all study visits are completed.

Who can Participate

Your child can join this study if they are 10 years old or younger AND if they weigh more than 17 pounds. Your child does not need to have a current respiratory illness to join this study.
