Evaluating the peripheral vascular blood flow and oxygenation responses to exercise in type 2 diabetes with time-resolved, quantitative MRI

The purpose of this research study is to use MRI to understand how skeletal muscles and blood vessels respond to exercise in people with and without Type 2 Diabetes

Why this Research Matters

If you join the study, you will be asked to visit the University of Colorado Hospital Clinical Translational Research Center (CTRC) and the Brain Imaging Center (BIC). There will be a total of up to four study visits, and your participation will last approximately 2 months. The CTRC visit includes the following: 1. Medical history and physical exam 2. Questionnaires 3. Blood draw 4. Resting and exercise electrocardiogram (EKG) 6. Ultrasound flow mediated dilation (FMD) 7. Graded exercise test (GXT) The 3 visits at BIC will include the following: 1. 1 hour leg MRI 2. 2 hour leg MRI 3. 1 hour heart MRI

Who can Participate

Adult

We are currently recruiting healthy volunteers who meet the following criteria: - Men and Women - 40-55 years of age - Non-smokers - Lean (BMI < 25) - Have been weight-stable for 3 months prior to the start of the study
