Healthy Volunteers Needed for Study Using MRI to Understand How Skeletal Muscles and Blood Vessels Respond to Exercise
This study is using MRI to learn how skeletal muscles and blood vessels respond to exercise in people with and without Type 2 Diabetes. We are currently looking for healthy volunteers to join our study!
Why this Research Matters
Help us learn how skeletal muscles and blood vessels respond to exercise in people with and without Type 2 Diabetes.
During these visits, we will ask you about your medical history and you will have a physical exam. You will also fill out surveys and give a small amount of blood from a needle in your arm. You will also have an electrocardiogram (EKG) while you are sitting and while you are exercising. We will need to place electrodes on your chest to measure the electrical activity of your heart during the EKG. An ultrasound flow mediated dilation (FMD) will be completed. We will place a cuff around your arm and use an ultrasound device to look at how your blood vessel changes with pressure. You will also have a graded exercise test (GXT). For this test, you will sit on a stationary bike and exercise while breathing through a plastic face mask. We will measure the air that you inhale and exhale. Lastly, you will have up to three MRIs. Two of the MRIs will be of your leg and one of the MRIs will be of your heart.
If you join the study, you will have four in-person visits, and your participation will last about 2 months.
Adult aged 40 to 55 years old
You may join this study if you:
- Are a man or woman aged 40 to 55
- Do not smoke
- Have a BMI less than 25
Your weight has to have stayed the same for 3 months before you start the study.
You will get up to $250 if you complete all study visits.
