We are looking for healthy adults who can safely have an MRI scan. This study looks at how drinking and not drinking alcohol affects how the brain works.
We hope to learn more about alcohol problems and treatment for alcohol use disorder. This study will help us learn how the brain is involved in alcohol problems. By joining the study, you may help scientists, healthcare providers, and patients in the future.
First, we’ll ask you a few questions over the phone. Then, we’ll meet with you on Zoom. During this visit, we will go over the study consent form and ask you questions about your mental health and substance use. If you qualify for the study, you’ll come to CU Anschutz for a visit. During this visit, you will have an MRI scan of your brain that takes about 60 minutes. An MRI machine uses strong magnets to take pictures inside the body. These magnets are safe and won’t hurt you. While you are in the MRI, you’ll look at different pictures. Some pictures might be gory, graphic, or violent. You’ll also fill out surveys on a computer, take a breathalyzer test, and give a saliva sample for a drug test. If you are female, you will also take a pregnancy test.
The study will last about 1 month.
You may qualify if you:
- Are between the ages of 21-65
- Have no current or previous substance use disorders
- Are able to undergo an MRI scan
Protocol Number: 20-3000
