Recruitment Database Plan for Patients with Inflamed Kidneys

This study will create a list of patients with inflamed kidneys to help with future research. It will also collect and safely store data and samples like blood, urine, stool, cells, and kidney tissue for later studies.

Why this Research Matters

If you join this study, researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus may keep leftover samples from your regular medical care. These samples may include blood, urine, stool, cells, and tissue. If you agree, researchers may also collect new samples and information just for this study. This may include blood (up to 6 tablespoons for adults or up to 3 tablespoons for children), urine, stool, and cells. A trained staff member will draw blood from a vein in your arm. You will be asked if you have had blood drawn in the past 8 weeks or plan to have it drawn in the next 8 weeks. This helps make sure too much blood is not taken. Samples and data may be collected up to four times a year, depending on your disease activity and the researcher's decision. Your samples and information will be stored and may be used in future research to learn more about kidney diseases. The research is not meant to help you directly, but it may help others with kidney disease or other illnesses in the future. You will not receive the results of the research, and they will not be added to your health records. The research will not affect your medical care. Your samples and data will be stored indefinitely. You can choose whether or not to let researchers keep and use them. If you say yes now, you can change your mind later by contacting your study doctor. If you do, your samples will no longer be used. Otherwise, they may be kept until they are used up or destroyed. Your samples and data will only be used for research and will not be sold. The research may help create new products, but there is no plan to pay you.

Who can Participate

Adult

You may be able to join this study if you are between the ages of 5 and 100 and have been diagnosed with an autoimmune kidney disease. These diseases include, but are not limited to, ANCA vasculitis, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), IgA nephropathy, lupus nephritis, membranous nephropathy, minimal change disease (MCD), or other immune-related kidney conditions. You must also be receiving care from a provider in the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, which includes patients seen at Denver Health.
