The purpose of this study is to keep collecting information from people with and without Parkinson's disease (PD). This study will also measure biomarkers that may be linked to how PD develops and changes over time.
Biomarkers are substances found in blood, tissue, or body fluids, such as cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), that can be signs of a disease or health condition. Learning about these biomarkers may help the study team better understand PD, create new treatments, and improve care for people living with the disease.
If you decide to join this study, you will first have a visit to see if you qualify. This visit may take up to 8 hours and may be done over more than one day. During this visit, the study team will ask questions about your health and your family's health. They will review any medicines you take, measure your height, weight, and other vital signs, and do physical and neurological exams. They will also collect blood, urine, and CSF samples and may take a small skin test if needed. Brain scans will be done to look at your brain and measure the activity of brain cells that make dopamine. You will also be asked to fill out online questionnaires. If you qualify for the study, you will be placed into one of three groups based on your health. During the study, you will do procedures and assessments like those done at your first visit. The number of visits, whether they are in person or virtual, and the tests you must do will depend on your group. There is no cost to take part in this study.
This study will go on for an unknown length of time. Taking part is fully voluntary and you may choose to leave at any time.
You may be eligible to join this study if you are a healthy adult without a neurological condition, an adult who may be at higher risk of getting PD because of certain symptoms or genetic changes, or an adult who has PD with or without genetic changes linked to the disease.
