This study wants to learn how a type of fat in the blood, called triglycerides, affects how the fetus grows.
Previous research has focused on how the blood sugar of the mother impacts why some babies are born larger than others. In this study, we want to learn if levels of triglycerides, a type of fat in the blood, also impacts the size of a baby at birth
If you join this study, you will have 4 study visits during your pregnancy. At these visits we will use a needle in your arm to take a small blood sample. We will measure your height, weight, and body circumference. We will also ask you to fill out surveys about your health and your pregnancy. We will ask you to use a home test to prick your finger to check your triglyceride levels and blood sugar. You will need to do this 4 times a day for 4 days after each of these visits. There will also be 1 study visit 1-2 weeks after your baby is born. At this visit, we will take body measurements of you and your baby and do a test to see the amount of body fat your baby has.
Study participation begins around 12-16 weeks of pregnancy and lasts up to 2 weeks after delivery.
