This study wants to find out if taking oral cannabis (marijuana) with THC or THC and CBD can help adults lower long-term back or neck pain.
It is important to study if a daily oral cannabis solution can help with chronic back or neck pain. Many current treatments, like opioids or surgery, can have side effects and do not always give lasting relief. Chronic spine pain can make daily tasks hard and lower a person’s quality of life. Because of this, safer and more helpful choices are needed. This helps us learn if oral cannabis can safely reduce pain and help people feel better. By learning about the right dose and possible side effects, we can give better information to people who are looking for new ways to handle their pain.
If you join the study, you will try three types of oral solutions, THC only, THC and CBD, and placebo (a solution with no medicine). Each is taken for six weeks, with short breaks in between. You will complete screening visits, health checks, blood tests, urine drug tests, questionnaires, eye-movement testing, and short thinking and movement tests during each phase. Some visits will be held in person at the Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), while others can be done remotely.
You can expect to be in the study for about six months.
You may be able to join the study if:
- You are between 21 and 84 years old.
- You have had chronic back or neck pain for over 3 months.
- You are willing to stop using personal cannabis products two weeks before the study begins.
