We are looking for asthmatics and non-asthmatics between 18-65 years old to participate in a study that will look at how cells in the lungs are different between populations.
We are gathering information from asthmatics and non-asthmatics to help us find new ways to treat asthma and lung disease. This study involves a bronchoscopy procedure at CU Anschutz Medical Campus.
If you are a non-asthmatic, you will complete an initial visit to see if you qualify for the study. At this visit, you will have your blood taken from an IV in your arm and provide a urine sample. We will also review your medical history, do a physical exam, and have you do some breathing tests. If you qualify for the study, you will have one visit for the bronchoscopy procedure. If you are an asthmatic, you will need to complete two visits to see if you qualify for the study before the bronchoscopy procedure visit. A bronchoscopy is a medical test that allows the study team to look inside your lungs. A thin, bendy tube with a tiny camera on the end will be placed through your nose or mouth. You'll be given medicine to help you relax and feel sleepy, and your throat will be numbed so it doesn't hurt. You can still breathe while the tube is in place. After the test, you might have a sore throat or feel tired.
Your participation will be 2-3 visits total over the course of 3-4 weeks.
Adults aged 18 to 65 years old who have a smoking history of less than 10 packs per year or have not smoked at all in the last year.
