Inhaled Cannabis, Oxidative Stress and the Pulmonary Innate Immune Response
Primary Objective
This study is recruiting marijuana smokers and non-smokers to evaluate the impact smoking marijuana has on the lungs.
Description
This study evaluates the effect of long term cannabis/marijuana smoking on lung health.
Main Procedures Involved: Study participation entails completing 1 approximately 5-hour visit at UC Health. During the visit, the study doctor will perform a bronchoscopy, which is a scope procedure that allows us to look at the lungs. The procedure is minimal risk and takes place under conscious sedation, which uses a combination of medicines that help you relax and minimize discomfort but allow you to remain awake and able to communicate during the procedure. You will also complete a chest x-ray, pulmonary function test, blood draw, urine sample, stool sample, and online surveys.
Duration of Participation: A single study visit from 7 AM to 12 PM during a weekday.
