BfedBwell: A Nutrition Program for Cancer Survivors with Overweight or Obesity
Primary Objective
This project is a pilot study to test different versions of a cancer survivorship nutrition program, called BfedBwell, to be part of the BfitBwell clinical exercise oncology program. A pilot study is a a smaller study that is evaluating feasibility and efficacy and is done before a larger study can be conducted. In addition to feasibility and acceptability of the program, we will also be measuring how both programs (BfedBwell+BfitBwell) impact: (1) diet and physical activity patterns, (2) adherence to evidence-based cancer survivorship guidelines for lifestyle behaviors, (3) weight and body composition, and (4) cardiometabolic health indicators.
Description
If you decide to be in the study, you will participate in the BfedBwell survivorship nutrition program for 6 months. The BfedBwell program has group education sessions and none, some, or all of the following: group support sessions, cooking demonstrations, and/or 1-on-1 counseling with a dietitian. You will also receive support for aerobic and resistance training through the BfitBwell exercise oncology program. Both programs are hybrid and have virtual and in-person sessions held at the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center.
Main Procedures Involved: Those who enroll will be asked to: (1) Attend 1 virtual and 1 in-person screening appointment to determine study eligibility; (2) Participate in the 6-month nutrition and exercise programs, held at the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center in Aurora, Colorado up to two times per week; (3) Have 2-3 in-person appointments prior to starting the program, and again at months 3 and 6 to for assessments of body composition, lab values, dietary intake, and physical activity; (4) Participate in one 90-minute focus group to provide feedback on the program.
