The University of Colorado Anschutz is conducting a research study to learn more about how shingles vaccines prevent shingles. Researchers want to learn more about how shingles vaccines prevent shingles and are looking for people who have never had shingles and received a Shingles Vaccine (either Zostavax or Shingrix) 5 or more years ago.
We are recruiting for 2 groups; you may be eligible to participate if you are
• Age 50 or older
• In general good health, and
• Have never had shingles,
and
* Received a shingles vaccine = 5 years ago and can provide documentation
- OR -
* Never received a shingles vaccine
Main Procedures Involved: Procedures include blood draws, administration of a challenge dose of shingles vaccine, and may include a skin biopsy.
The FDA approved Shingrix vaccine will be offered at study conclusion to participants who’ve never received it before.
Duration of Participation: Study Duration for group who has received a Shingles Vaccine = 5 years ago is 10 days.
Study Duration for group who has never received a Shingles Vaccine is 5 months.
