Evaluation of Intestinal Permeability and Chronic Inflammation in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity Compared to Healthy Lean Controls (IDOS)
This study plans to learn more about gut health and inflammation in obese individuals with type 2 diabetes compared to lean healthy controls

Participants will complete 2-3 visits- a screening visit and a testing visit.
Some participants will be asked to split screening into 2 visits. All visits include blood draws and the testing visit includes blood draws and frequent urine samples. Participants will also be asked to provide a stool sample after screening. It is preferred that participants in the lean healthy control cohort are over age 50.
Main Procedures Involved: Blood draw, lactulose mannitol ratio test (urine test), vitals, stool samples
Duration of Participation: 1-2 months
18 to 79 years
Patients must be between the ages of 18-45 years old. Lean controls must NOT have a diagnosis of diabetes and should have a Body mass index (BMI) of 18-25 kg/m2 . Patients with Type 2 diabetes must not be taking any other anti-diabetes medications other than metformin and should have a BMI of 28-38 kg/m2
